Can I see a demonstration of Notipal in action?
Visit http://Typixel.com to see an error page with Notipal installed.
Will Notipal help if my Web hosting company goes down?
Most Website breakages are caused by the people running the site, rather than the Web hosting company that hosts the site. Web hosting companies are supposed to be incredibly reliable - if yours isn't, you should be using one of their competitors. However, we are also working on supporting Web hosting induced outages, too. Notipal covers you when your Website breakages are caused by the most likely culprits.
How do I install Notipal?
Sign-up for a Notipal account. We'll generate a line of code for your specific Website which is presented to you as soon as you log-in to your account. Copy/paste this line of code in to your Website template error pages.
If you've installed any of the popular analytics tools in your Website, Notipal is just as easy to install.
Will Notipal affect my Website in any way?
No. The Notipal code installation is based on stream-lined HTML and will make an indeterminable difference to the load time of your Website pages. If you use one of the very popular Website analytics tools, you'll find that, because they are based on JavaScript, they are more resource intensive than Notipal.
Should I customize my error pages?
Yes. If you take pride in your Website, the value it adds to your bottom-line, and the customer experience it provides for your visitors, client, and customers, there's no justification for using the default 'Internal Server Error' template that is provided by your server or Website design 'templating' system. At the very least, your Website error templates should have;
- Your logo
- A message explaining the problem
- A Notipal email collection form
It only takes a few minutes to do this, it gives a far more professional appearance to how you are handling the situation, and it empowers you to bring your visitors/paying-customers back after an error has been resolved.
Can I customize the email collection form provided by Notipal?
Yes. You can change the appearance of the email collection form using CSS. This is a more advanced technique and should easily be handled by the developers who created your Website.
Is Notipal secure?
Yes. Notipal only collects the email address of visitors to your Website whom actively leaves their email address in aid of notification. If you upgrade to Notipal Professional, Business, or Enterprise, your account Dashboard connection is encrypted and protected using SSL certification.
When are my subscribers notified?
You choose when your error subscribers are notified.
For example, your Website goes down and collects one email address. We notify you that your Website is down and collecting email addresses. When you ready to do so, you can log-in to your Notipal account Dashboard, which will clearly display your most recent outages, and you can click the 'Send Emails' button next to the outage.
Can I customize the email contents?
Yes. Notipal Basic notification emails tell your visitors that your site is back online. It's that simple. Notipal Professional, Business, and Enterprise enable you to completely customize your notification emails, giving you the opportunity to offer an explanation of why the Website was broken, and perhaps a special offer or promotional discount to the visitors that frequented your Website during the outage (5% off the next purchase, perhaps?).
Can I download the email addresses that are collected by Notipal?
At present, as part of our Terms of Service, the error subscriber emails cannot be exported from our system.
Is it easy to upgrade, downgrade, or cancel my account?
Yes. Your account level can be adjusted on a per-Website basis by clicking on the 'Settings' tab on the Dashboard for each of the Sites that have been added to your Account.
What do you do with the email addresses once an error has been fixed and the emails have been sent?
After a period of time - and only when it is safe to do so - Notipal will delete all email addresses that are notified by an error notification. Here at Notipal we believe your visitors have subscribed for once-off notifications of when a problem has been fixed - they haven't subscribed to your regular marketing newsletter.
For example, if you collect 20 subscribers during an outage, Notipal will delete the 20 subscriber email addresses from our system after the outage notification has been completed, and 20 emails have been sent.
There is a delay in the deletion of these email addresses post-notification. This is due the Notipal system management processes which have been programmed to ensure that our service is stable and we have enough processing power to keep the service running smoothly for you.
Can I use Notipal to schedule an outage or site maintenance?
Certainly. Notipal isn't just for unplanned outages. You can also use Notipal to plan for necessary and unavoidable downtime caused by, for example, 'database maintenance'.
